ELROD CEMETERY

SERVING OUR COMMUNITY.
ELROD CEMETERY was established circa 1838 on land granted to the Howell-Elrod family for service in the American Revolution. The cemetery has served as a resting place for descendants of the family and members of the local community for more than 200 years. Revolutionary War veterans and some of Middle Tennessee’s earliest settlers lie beneath the ancient cedars at the heart of the property.
ELROD CEMETERY remains a private cemetery operated entirely by volunteers through the non-profit Elrod Cemetery Association. It is a Tennessee historic cemetery and remains a sacred space to honor and reflect upon the history we share and make together.
CEMETERY MANAGEMENT.
THE ELROD CEMETERY ASSOCIATION is operated by a board of volunteers appointed by the descendants of those memorialized on the property. The Elrod Cemetery Association oversees the preservation, operation and maintenance of the cemetery. In addition to keeping records, managing day-to-day operations and assisting those seeking to purchase or use interment rights, the Elrod Cemetery Association solicits and manages the financial donations required for maintenance and improvements.

DECORATION.
3RD SATURDAY
IN JUNE
ANNUAL DECORATION DAY at Elrod Cemetery is celebrated on the third Saturday in June of each year. In keeping with local tradition, friends, family and members of the community continue to gather at the cemetery on the third Saturday of each June to share memories and decorate the graves of loved ones. This event serves as a work day, family reunion, annual meeting for cemetery business and a general celebration of community.
DECORATION DAY BEGINS AT 1 p.m. Attendance is free to all, but participants should expect that board members will be circulating to gather feedback and collect financial donations for the ongoing upkeep and preservation of Elrod Cemetery. Bring chairs, an umbrella, drinking water and your checkbook!
